Mario 64 PS2/Opl

Post by aramchek » March 16th, 2021, 9:15 pm

Been out a while, but haven't seen anything about on here so thought I'd post. I've removed the 1gb padding file and swapped it to a dummy file. Played on latest opl, sound a little choppy here and there but plays and save game work onto real memory card, vmc blacked screened. I think it's the same version that was reversed engineered that came out on the xbox a little while ago :)

Thanks for the link. Does this have any advantages over the original N64 game, other than (I assume) a higher resolution and a better frame-rate? I have heard that the PC version supports fan-made mods such as higher texture graphics, I wonder if those will be brought over to the N64 version.

If anything, you be better off playing the og xbox/pc version due to the music stuttering. I had a look at the elf file to see if I could maybe impliment mods, but I think it'd cause more problems than it's worth. Thought I'd put this up and there doesn't seem too much love for the old Ps2 on this site

Home-brew for the PS2 can be very and miss.

Although this is a video purely for emulation running on a PS2, it kinda shows it doesn't really have the grunt to run some home-brew software smoothly.

I don't think you can beat the xbox for out of the box emulation, I know pc/shield are a good options but I dont have the heart faffing about getting things running properly, especially after spending years getting my xbox the way I want it. i do like having the ps2 though, nice to play a lot of stuff that's really good that never came out on the xbox and the library is huge. This Mario game is the only thing on my ps2 that isn't standard and the first time I've played it properly, didn't realise how frustrating it is :P lol.

The controls between Mario 64 and the later 3d Mario games has really improved. Maybe a little too loose if you cask me. So it can be a little tough going back to Mario 64.
